Skopelos island

Skopelos, an island in the Western Aegean Sea, is the largest of the islands constituting the Nothern Sporades. You can reach Skopelos by catamaran boat or flying dolphin from the ports of Volos and Thessaloniki or take a plane from Athens.

The first residents of island were settlers from the Minoan Crete who disembarked at the south cove of the island; this is revealed from the grave that the archaeological axe had discovered, with the rich offerings for their leader Staphylos. Many have passed from the island: Thessalians, Macedonians, Romans, Venetians and the legendary pirate Barbarossa. Ancient carved graves, a Venetian castle, innumerable Byzantine churches and monasteries, are only few of the historical sights worth seeing.

It is named the forest island, since its larger part is covered by dense pinewoods that lead to coves, small ports and beaches of unforgettable beauty. The big blue, the little picturesque houses, the stone-paved streets, the alleys going uphill interrupted every now and then by half landings and steps, the balcony- embracing bougainvilleas, the courtyards filled with flowers, the freshly  whitewashed walls, the abrupt rocks and the clearings that offer panoramic views, impress even the most demanding visitor. Skopelos, the island with the astonishing natural beauty was the film location for the famous musical “MAMMA MIA” adored by 30 millions viewers around the world.

The island offers all modern comforts, maintaining at the same time its authentic traditional character. Skopelos offers something unique for each visitor, romantic atmosphere, astonishing landscapes, light blue waters, picturesque views, entertainment as well as peace and quiet. It is an ideal place for the happiest moment of your life. Skopelos is the island where Mama Mia was filmed. A lot of couples go back there and they live their muth in Greece, with a Mama Mia wedding at the rock of Agios Yiannis chapel. In the area tehre are various nice taverns where you can have the wedding reception afterwards.
